training is our hearts desire

Only a few trained doctors work at St. Mary's Hospital. They only stay for about 1-2 years until they continue their rotation at another hospital. To make the training sustainable, we focus our teaching on the nursing staff. 

When the visiting teams are on site, they conduct a daily theory lesson in the morning. The theory lessons are based on the training material of the Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC) of the WHO. At the end of the two-week mission, the newly aquired knowledge is assessed by means of a test. In a small ceremony, a certificate of completion is handed out to those who have passed the assessment. 

In the future, we plan to conduct the training based on a structured two-year course. 

In addition to the teaching by the visiting teams, we would like to provide scholarships for employees desiring further training.
