Our commitment in nigeria

Since the first mission of a Swiss team in 2011, 2-3 teaching missions have been carried out annually at St. Mary's Hospital. As a result, more than 2500 patients have benefited from a necessary operation so far. In addition, the theoretical and practical knowledge of the staff could be improved.

During our missions, the day always starts with a theoretical training in surgery, gynecology and obstetrics or anesthesia. Following the training, rounds are conducted in the respective departments. In parallel, patients to be operated on are examined and the surgical plan for the day is drawn up.

Most operations and follow-up treatments are performed by the Nigerian colleagues under supervision. In this way, they gain know-how on wound care, hygiene as well as practical basic surgery. In addition to surgical activities, they receive training in anesthesia and gynecology and obstetrics from specialists.
